Great news! Under Armour has release a new feature for the UA Scale called "Athlete Mode." Athlete mode can be used to improve the accuracy body fat recorded by the UA Scale after measuring weight. This is specifically useful for users with lean, muscular, or athletic body types.
Please note that in order to use the Athlete Mode feature, you must be running the latest version of Record, Version 3.5.0 for iOS and Android users. Please check the iTunes App Store or the Google Play Store for an app update.
In order for your scale to receive the update you must complete a successful weigh-in. After doing this, your scale will automatically update.
How to Use Athlete Mode
When recording weight and body fat with your UA scale, the amount of body fat measured may vary due to how hydrated you are, when you last exercised, when you last ate, skin temperature and many other factors such as overall fitness. As a way to combat the "overall fitness" discrepancy, we have created the Athlete Mode feature. Athlete mode is intended for users with a naturally thin or muscular body type. Once it is enabled, future body fat readings will be more accurate.
How to Enable/Disable Athlete Mode
Once you have updated your scale and app to meet the minimum requirements, you can enable Athlete mode from your Scale Settings page. To access, open UA Record and tap the "UA Sync" icon in the top right corner, and wake up your scale by pressing on the surface. The scale should read “Step Up.”
Next, tap to select your UA Scale from the list of connected devices.
Once on your UA Scale Settings page, select "Body Fat Settings".
Turn on the "Body Fat" slider, and turn on the "Athlete Mode" slider so they both turn Green
Future Body Fat readings with your UA Scale will use Athlete Mode to more accurately report your Body Fat percentage.
You can always revisit the Body Fat Settings page to enable or disable Athlete Mode.
Will enabling Athlete Mode correct weight and body fat measurements I've recorded with my UA Scale in the past?
No, enabling Athlete Mode will only affect future body fat measurements.
Why should I use Athlete Mode?
Athlete mode is intended for users with a naturally thin or muscular body type. Once it is enabled, future body fat readings will be more accurate for these body types.
Why am I not seeing my Body Fat Measurement?
Make sure you have the "Body Fat" slider turned on, Athlete Mode will not be available if this slider is turned off. Also, body fat is measured after weight is measured, make sure you remain on the scale until you see "DONE."
Please note: Our technology works by using Bio-electrical Impedance (BEI). BEI runs a gentle current through the body to determine soft tissue mass. Since BEI is an electrical measurement, it is very sensitive to the anything that reduces or increases electrical conduction, like socks or water. Additionally, measurements can be influenced by how hydrated you are, when you last exercised, when you last ate, and skin temperature.
For best results, only take a body fat % measurement with dry, bare feet. Another good practice is to measure body fat % around the same time each day for best results.
